Residents are being offered the chance to save money on their fuel bills ahead of winter.

North Tyneside Council is again signposting people to a ‘collective energy scheme’ after it helped save residents hundreds of pounds in the past.

The scheme brings households together to negotiate a better deal for their gas and electricity bills.

In North Tyneside, this can be done on their behalf by iChoosr, a national switching company.

iChoosr presents all registered households to energy companies and these providers then take part in a reverse auction, competing to provide the best possible deal.

Coun John Stirling, cabinet member for environment, said: “With energy costs rising again, it’s important we signpost residents to initiatives like this one.

“It’s quick, easy and free to register, and every time we have supported the scheme the average saving has been over £220 per person.”

Registration is open now and closes on October 12.

People can sign-up via the council’s website,, or by using the public facilities at the borough’s Customer First Centres.
