On Good Friday, March 25, at 10am, Churches Together in North Shields will hold the traditional Good Friday March, or Walk of Witness.
Many people have experienced this event over the years and have good memories of when the streets were full and Northumberland Square was packed with children in their best outfits.
Of course, times have changed, and for many people Good Friday is just an ordinary day.
“Change and decay in all around I see” are words from the hymn Abide With Me.
Sometimes we feel their truth. But are all changes for the worse?
Change can also bring renewal.
In the words of JH Newman: “To live is to change and to be perfect is to have changed often.”
Our Walk of Witness is not intended to be a nostalgic exercise, looking back to or recreating the past. It is very much about here, in North Shields, and now, in 2016.
We walk to witness the love of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross on the first Good Friday and rose again on Easter Day.
That love doesn’t change, but it does have the power to change us.
Why not join us?
