Trustees of a Whitley Bay-based charity have donated 650 items of winter clothing to the Salvation Army.

Following the dedication and blessing marking the Angel of the North’s annual Lights To Remember service, the members presented the items to Captain Janice Snell.

Each light on the tree had been dedicated in memory of someone and five items of new warm clothing were provided for each person remembered.

The service included readings and reflections and The Salvation Army band played carols and seasonal music.

Angels of the North’s honorary chief executive officer Barbara Connors-Fowler said: “This year was particularly poignant because two of my fellow-Trustees, Tina Coleman and Don Hallam, died last week and they have been specially remembered.”

Captain Snell said: “With all the problems that so many people are facing, the gift of warm clothing is particularly appreciated.”
