Retired Whitley Bay beat officer Ian Gillie is cycling over four days from Whitley Bay to London in memory of his friend Robin Clark, who was beat officer for Cullercoats, who died from cancer.

Ian is being supported by Dave Robinson, Sean Lyons and Ian Rutter, and they set off from Whitley Bay on Monday.

They are aiming to raise £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support’s nurses as a thank you for the care they offered Robin.

Ian said: “Robin was an absolute gentleman and a great friend. He fought his cancer with great dignity.

“Throughout his treatment he was supported by his lovely wife Susan and son Ross.”

“The Macmillan nurses assisted Robin and his family with dedication and care which was second to none.”
