A charity trustee from the borough has been rewarded for his fundraising efforts with a prestigious award.

At a special presentation evening held at North Tyneside Council’s offices, trustee of Whitley Bay-based umbrella charity Angels of the North, Albert Whiting, was presented with a Gold Commendation Award by council chairman Janet Hunter.

Mr Whiting was nominated by the charity’s chairman, Dr Hari Shukla, for being the leading force behind the organisation’s work.

The award recognises individuals who give unselfishly to others in terms of their kindness, time and effort, making a significant personal contribution either to their local community or by helping other residents.

Barbara Connors-Fowler, the honorary chief executive officer at Angels of the North, said: “I am delighted that such a prestigious award has been presented to someone who works so hard for many charitable causes throughout the borough.”
