The parish of St Cuthbert and St Joseph in North Shields has raised more than £5,000 for a CAFOD health clinic.

Youngsters at St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School in North Shields hit on the idea of fundraising to buy a health clinic after learning about the CAFOD World Gifts scheme.

The facility cost £4,000 so when youngsters at nearby St Joseph’s RC Primary heard about the mammoth task they decided to help out, and soon local parishioners also got on board.

There were sponsored walks, cake sales, non-uniform days, enterprise days and coffee mornings, as well as donations.

St Cuthbert’s headteacher Shaun Dillon said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to give our children the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of families in need.”

A total of £5,368 has now been handed over, and plans are in place for another World Gifts fundraising project.
