A group of children sparked concern when they were spotted wading across the causeway from St Mary's Island.
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Bridge was called after a member of the public contacted the Coastguard about the group of youngsters on the causeway.
Brigade members spoke to the children, who were back on the mainland but confirmed they had just waded across from the island.
A brigade captain explained the dangers of crossing the causeway when it is covered by the tide.
The Tynemouth VLB has so far responded to 67 call-outs this year.
