Temporary homes are being sought for a couple in the run-up to Christmas.
Knitted figures representing Mary, Joseph and the donkey have been created for a Posada – a Spanish word meaning lodgings – project by members of the Cullercoats Methodist Church community.
As part of Advent, they are looking for homes, businesses and other venues in the Cullercoats and Marden area who could welcome the knitted figures for a night and day.
A number of shops and businesses have already signed up, with pictures helping make up a Posada trail.
The launch of the Posada project will take place on Tuesday, December 1, at Cullercoats Library at 10.30am.
Anyone interested can attend and sign up for a slot.
On Christmas Eve, the knitted figures will return to Cullercoats Methodist Church and be welcomed into the stable.
Posada project organiser Sue Carr said: “We have all seen pictures of refugees on dangerous journeys, looking for places of safety.
“Joseph and Mary also travelled and searched for shelter where Jesus could be born and then fled to Egypt to escape persecution.”
