Club gets funding to improve facilities

A NORTH Tyneside sports club has received a cash injection of almost £50,000 to help improve its sports hall facilities.

Blue Flames has been given £49,317 from SITA Trust through its Landfill Communities Fund.

The money will allow more than 1,000 netball players and hundreds of participants of cricket, football and tennis to benefit from improvements within the hall, particularly to the playing surfaces.

Tom Scarry, a volunteer board member said: “This will allow the steady increase of participation in sport – especially ladies netball – to continue.

“SITA Trust provided a generous grant almost five years ago when the hall was being built.

“This is further evidence of its willingness to carry on supporting young sportsmen and women in the north east.”

Jools Granville, of SITA Trust, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide further much needed capital investment to Blue Flames Sporting Club.

“Its ability to engage young people in healthy activity is commendable and we look forward to seeing an increase in activity at the club as a result of our support.”
