The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) has purchased eight dry suits with lifejackets and safety helmets.

They were paid for from money raised at the Rotary Club of Tynemouth’s Shanty Nights held over the last two years at the TVLB headquarters.

Two years ago £900 was raised to purchase three suits, and last year a further five were bought from the £1,506.89 raised in 2014.

TVLB secretary John Wright said: “We were delighted to receive yet another donation from the Rotary Club of Tynemouth to obtain these extra suits which enables us to stay dry when we are involved in sea and river searches.”

Rotary club president David Milligan said: “We know the TVLB is entirely dependant on donations from the public and we are pleased to be able to assist in the purchase of much needed equipment.

“We are very proud of the volunteers who support the station and give up their free time to answer the callouts in all kinds of weather.”
