Hundreds of pounds has been raised for charity at a club’s emotional open day.
Tynemouth Model Boat Club dedicated their annual open day in memory of ex-member George Mowbray who passed away last year.
The event, held at Tynemouth Park, involved boat displays, yacht and power boat racing, and stalls.
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were due to give a rescue demonstration but were called out to a real rescue.
A club spokesperson said: “George was the chairman of the boat club from 2000 to 2006 and is fondly remembered by many of the current modellers who are grateful for the work he did in establishing the club as a popular local organisation.
“The club members wanted to do something useful in memory of George and decided to dedicate the Open Day to his memory.”
“Everyone involved was very generous and the grand total of donations and club member auctions raised £1,100 for the local branch of Mind.”
