A coffee morning and other events have raised almost £1,050 for charity.

The event, held at Whitley Lodge in Whitley Bay, featured raffles and games of dominoes.

It was organised by Shirley Hallam, president of Soroptimist International’s Tynemouth and Whitley Bay branch, with backing from Maria Hancock, boss of North Tyneside’s Simply Activ fitness initiative.

The proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Now, a new charity created by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Maria said: “I could not believe the support and help I received from the local community.

“Thank you to all those who helped to make the event a huge success.”

Raffle prizes were donated by the likes of Northumberland’s Alnwick Garden and South Shields clothing firm Barbour.
