Collecting to ease suffering
Christian Aid Week, which happens every May, is an extraordinary time when more than 20,000 churches across the country unite to achieve incredible things.
It is a week when Christians come together from every denomination to raise funds for those who live in desperate poverty or face incredible hardship due to natural or man-made disasters. We only have to watch the news to be aware of how much suffering there is in the world today.
During the week of May 14 to 21 you may see people of all ages and from all churches going out into the community and knocking on doors.
If you get a Christian Aid envelope through your door please use this as an opportunity to help your fellow man (and woman and child). Everyone who collects is a volunteer so all of the money goes to the charity.
You can also support your local churches by coming to our Christian Aid coffee morning on Saturday, May 14, at St Columba’s United Reformed Church in Northumberland Square, from 10am to noon, and our service to celebrate the start of Christian Aid Week on Sunday, May 15, at Christ Church, Preston Road, at 6pm.
