College celebrates sixth year of A-Level success
Staff and students at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College are celebrating a near perfect A-Level result.
The North Shields college continues its six-year record of excellence with a 99 per cent A-Level pass rate.
More than 94 per cent of A Level students gained entry to university.
Mark Bal and Carlos Purves both received triple A* results to secure a place at Jesus College, Cambridge University.
Carlos said: “Being accepted at Cambridge was a wonderful feeling, my time at Queen Alex has fully prepared me for this moment, the teaching is excellent and the support you receive is incredible.”
In line with national trends, Mathematics, one of the most popular A Level subjects across the country, continues to produce high grades with 87.5 per cent for A Level further mathematics.
The Creative Studios at Queen Alex received an incredible 100% pass rate at A Level this year.
Rhiann Hearons, a former pupil at Norham High School, said: “I am delighted with my results, I was so happy to see an A* A Level in Graphic Design! I’ll be going to Lincoln University to study Illustration and I can’t wait.
“I couldn’t have got here without the amazing support from Queen Alex, the teachers and pastoral tutors have really helped me and I feel so grateful for their efforts in helping me achieve my results.
“I feel prepared for university and will always be thankful to the amazing staff at Queen Alex for their help and support.”
Deputy Principal of Curriculum and Business Development, Audrey Kingham said: “Achieving and sustaining six years of high performance at 99 per cent or above takes a lot of hard work, dedication and effort from Queen Alex staff and students.
“This result demonstrates our drive and mission to provide excellence in education and that our students and prospective students can be confident in achieving success with Queen Alex.”
Head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, Lee Patterson said: “This is another fantastic result for Queen Alex and it is brilliant to see so many of our students receive such high grades, securing places at prestigious universities across the country.
“I’m delighted to see continued growth in results for STEM related subjects such as Maths – proving that we are working in the right direction to provide an outstanding A Level provision.”
