Common sense is required with cleaning up borough

The letter from Jill Heslop (News Guardian, April 10) raises some very important issues.

Never mind that hundreds of cigarette butts have been discarded, this sadly typifies what the north east is all about.

For the council to apply common sense would need initially a three-day conference between management and unions, a total realignment of work practices,a health and safety assessment, the placement of an order for dustpan and brush and the return of grabber with pole.

A full council meeting would then be called with suitable refreshments and the decision would be pending.
