Competition winners show flair in pictures

Winners of a borough photographic competition were announced at a recent meeting.

A variety of subjects were covered in the first competition of the year at Whitely Bay Photographic Society, which was split into two sections, monochrome and colour.

The winner of the club colour section was Stu Williams’ picture St Mary’s Fire, which showed a spectacular sunrise shot.

Brian Loan made his own impact on the Club Section by taking second, third and fourth places, while David McAllister’s two prints shared joint fifth places.

The winning entry of the advanced section was won by Anne Swearman with her image Bluebell Wood. She was also awarded fourth place. Peter Craig, Andrew Nicoll, and Richard Narcross gained the other three places, while Peter and Richard’s other pictures were highly commended, as were those from Chris Hales and Jeff Evans.

The advanced mono section was won by Andrew Nicoll with Cullin View.

The society will continue with its programme of practical demonstrations and discussions, and the increasingly popular photography and lunch trips.

The club continues to welcome members on Tuesdays at 7.30pm. Visit for details.
