A new educational concept incorporating art and nature is blooming in Whitley Bay.
Decote Diggers, based at Whitley Bay Young People’s Centre, incorporates dance, crafts and musical expression with a themed focus on the importance of nature, gardening and leading a clean lifestyle.
It’s been wonderful to see the children’s reactions to growing their own gardens in our first termJo-Anne Torre, owner of Decote Diggers
Aimed at two to five-year-olds, each term offers a different theme relevant to the season to allow budding gardeners the chance to grow their own flowers and plants or fruit and vegetables.
Help is given by qualified horticulturalist Rhiannon Williams, also owner of The Secret Garden Club.
Jo-Anne Torre, owner of Decote Diggers, said: “It’s been wonderful to see the children’s reactions to growing their own gardens in our first term.
“The excitement and how proud they are to nurture and care for their ‘Mini Gardens’ as they return each week is exactly why I started Decote Diggers.”
