Rev Carla Quenet.

Members and friends of St John’s Methodist Church, in Ilfracombe Gardens, Whitley Bay, gathered for an afternoon tea to wish bon voyage to Rev Carla Quenet.

Carla, who has also been minister at Monkseaton and Seaton Sluice Methodist churches, has spent seven-and-a-half years at St John’s where she was married and saw her daughter baptised.

During her time, more people are using the church premises, including toddlers’ groups, community lunches for older people, coffee events and family film nights.

Carla said: “I have valued my time working alongside the congregations in the North Shields and Whitley Bay circuit. It has been a privilege to work alongside lay and ordained staff, paid and volunteers. My ministry has only been possible because of a fantastic team of people.

“I will shortly be taking up a role in the Discipleship, Ministry and Learning Network. My role as a presbyter will be very different and this both excites and terrifies me.

“As a family we will be moving to Yorkshire. I am thankful for the way in which I have been supported to do this.”

For the help and support Carla has given to the churches and North Shields and District Methodist Circuit, she was presented with bulbs, vouchers and a bouquet.
