CONSULTATION: Council engages widely all year

In response to comments regarding North Tyneside Council's approach to engaging with the public about budget proposals, I would like to be very clear that the council takes very seriously its commitment to listen to residents about their views and what their priorities are.

Residents will be pleased to know that the engagement process around this year’s council plan and budget proposals has been extensive and certainly not limited to the one meeting, which was referred to in a letter.

The council engages widely with residents throughout the whole year.

The work to shape the council plan priorities, which set the framework for the budget proposals, began last summer when we spoke to 1,156 residents to understand what was important to them. 

This was then followed by a consultation period in two phases.

In the first phase, from September 15 to the end of December, there were nine events where residents were involved, together with an online questionnaire.

This feedback was considered by cabinet on December 7 last year.

A second phase, again with events and online activity, ran from December 8 to January 31.

The events were well publicised via the press, our social media channels, which includes almost 10,000 followers on Facebook and Twitter, and via posters at 33 locations across the borough.

Feedback from residents on the engagement has been very positive and I would like to thank the many people who took the time to help us to develop our proposals.
