COUNCIL TAX: Changes will cause residents hardship

As one of the many North Tyneside council tax payers on ten direct debits per year, I am surprised that the council is trying to take us for fools by stating that the new collection arrangements will not affect us, ie we will still get two '˜free months'.

True, we will get our usual two months’ break next year (February and March 2017), but of course, only one month this year because of the first payment being April, instead of May.

We are, in effect, making an extra payment, which will cause many council taxpayers hardship, whilst the council gives itself a bonus month. It says that people having difficulty should contact it, which says it all.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that this is a nice little earner for North Tyneside Council to help “balance the books”.
