Essential council services will continue for borough residents over the Christmas period.
Most North Tyneside Council offices and facilities will be closed for the duration of Wednesday, December 24, to Monday, December 29, then from Wednesday, December 31, to Tuesday, January 5.
But many staff will still be working to ensure that critical services, especially those that support the most vulnerable, continue to be provided.
Social care officers will be available during out of office hours to respond to emergency situations involving children and families, older people, people with mental health problems, people with learning disabilities and difficulties, and homeless people.
In an emergency residents should ring (0191) 200 6800.
During normal office hours, residents should use the Front Door numbers of 0345 2000 109 for concerns about children, and (0191) 643 2777 for concerns relating to vulnerable adults.
All residents who receive community meals at home have been advised of their Christmas arrangements. Customers with queries can contact the community meals team on 0800 389 8653 during office hours, or First Call on (0191) 643 2777, in an emergency.
Residents living in council-owned accommodation who need to report a repair or other housing issue should telephone 0345 2000 102 during office hours.
If a person become homeless, they can call (0191) 200 6800
If they need an emergency repair their home (no heating, lighting or hot water), they can call (0191) 200 7258
North Tyneside Council will continue to treat its 240 miles of priority highway during wintry and icy conditions. Priority routes include dual carriageways and main bus routes, and staff are on standby to deal with any weather emergency.
There will be no collection of refuse or recycling on Thursday, December 25; Friday, December 26; and Thursday, January 1.
Branch libraries will be closed from December 23 to January 1.
North Tyneside’s leisure centres will operate a revised schedule over the festive period.
The Customer First Centres – Wallsend, Whitley Bay, North Shields and White Swan – will be open up until Christmas Eve when they will do a shorter day of 9am to 3pm.
They will then re-open on Monday, December 29 until Wednesday, December 31. Normal openings will then resume on Friday, January 2.
