The end of the year is almost upon us and I cannot help but reflect with pride on the extraordinary accomplishments we have achieved together this past year.
Despite massive cuts to our budgets, we have ambitiously pursued our vision to improve the borough and bring in new investment, create much needed jobs and attract even more visitors.
Work is going well on the coastal regeneration and Wallsend continues to improve with brand new affordable housing, better High Street shopping and national recognition for our lovely parks.
Our summer festival was another great success and this year’s magical winter festival is simply stunning.
We’ve recently received further good news from Ofsted. They have recognised our first and primary schools as the very best in the country with more than 98 per cent rated as good or outstanding – a truly tremendous achievement.
All of these things are only possible because of the commitment made by the residents and businesses of North Tyneside to work together. It is fair to say this has not been an easy year, and there are a lot of challenges ahead for us next year. But I want to assure you that this council will always strive for excellence and will refuse to accept inadequacy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, for your part in bringing us to this point.
With that in mind, I would like to wish every one of you a happy and healthy 2016.
