NORTHUMBERLAND enjoyed a largely trouble-free bonfire night this year, according to figures.
The number of fires put out by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service on Monday, November 5, was 19, down from 21 last year, and fire control received 119 calls throughout the evening, down from 122 the previous year.
Alex Bennett, chief fire officer for Northumberland County Council, said: “The statistics for bonfire night this year reflect a largely trouble-free evening and crews coped well with the incidents that they attended. We would like to thank the public for their cooperation.
“It appears that our fire safety messages are continuing to reach people across the county and our education programmes about the dangers of fireworks and bonfires, are really working.”
