Creative work for World Cup

Students have been getting creative as they celebrate the 2015 Rugby World Club.

Whitley Bay Library teamed up with Marine Park First School to host a ‘Design a rugby shirt’ competition, which attracted entries from more than 200 of the Whitley Bay school’s pupils.

Children were invited to design their own personal rugby shirt and the top drawings received special prizes at a ceremony held at the school.

The winner – Cecily O’Loughlin – received a signed shirt from Newcastle Falcons and Wales star, Warren Fury, while the runner-up, Finlay Ions, received a Percy Park RFC shirt, donated by club chairman, Keith Atkinson. Edie Conaty received a mini rugby ball for coming in third.

Whitley Bay Library also ran the competition for library users, with eight-year-old Idris Pritchard winning a Newcastle Falcons jersey for his colourful design.
