Couple assaulted over boxer dog

A COUPLE were beaten up next to a borough school on Sunday night after a boxer typed dog jumped up at them.

The attack happened at 11.23pm on Sunday July 10 when the 30-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were walking near the entrance to George Stephenson High School as they approached a cut leading towards Killingworth Village.

They saw a man with a boxer type dog, and when the dog jumped up at the woman, the man she was with spoke to the dog owner but he assaulted them both in a sustained attack, shouting racial abuse.

The offender, who made off into the Hadrian Court area, is described as a white man, heavy build, with a boxer dog.

The injured couple were taken to North Tyneside General Hospital for treatment where the man suffered facial injuries which are not life threatening but he is still being treated in hospital.

The woman was treated for cuts and bruises and later discharged.

Acting Detective Inspector Jo Brooks said: “We are appealing for help from the public from anyone who may know the man responsible, and may have seen him around walking his dog.

“We’re asking for anyone who witnessed the attack to contact police straightaway.

“This was a frightening incident for the couple to have suffered and we need to find the man responsible.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
