Early morning attack leaves man with fractured eye socket

FOUR thugs have left a 21-year-old with a broken jaw and fractured eye socket after an assault in North Shields.

The victim was on the grass area near Redburn Park Medical Centre on Station Road in Percy Main on Saturday July 2.

The incident happened, between 2am and 3am, on the grassed area near Redburn Park Medical Centre, Station Road, in Percy Main, North Shields, on Saturday, July 2.

The 21-year-old was approached by a group of up to four men who struck up a conversation with him before carrying out the assault.

The man’s injuries are not life threatening, but he attended North Tyneside Hospital before being transferred to the RVI for treatment to a broken jaw and fractured eye socket.

Now police are appealing for any witnesses into the assault.

Detective Constable Nick Lawrance, from North Tyneside CID, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to trace the group responsible for this unprovoked assault.

“The victim appears to have been subjected to a sustained attack by this group and has suffered nasty facial injuries.

“I’d urge anyone with any information to come forward as they could greatly assist with the ongoing investigation.”
