Family tribute after man is killed at house party in Wallsend

THE family of a 25-year-old man murdered in Wallsend in the early hours of Saturday morning have paid tribute to him.

A police investigation into the murder of Ryan Armstrong is continuing after he was found dead in Burns Closes Crescent at 1.53am.

And in a statement released through the police, Mr Armstrong’s family said: “He was a hard working lad who was a lovely man. We are a close family.”

Police believe Mr Armstrong died after being involved in a fight at a house party in Burn Closes Crescent.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene just before 2am and he was taken to the RVI where he was later declared dead.

Investigating officers say a fight appears to have started inside a house before moving on to the street.

Seven people – men aged 21, 20 and 19, and women aged 45, 25, 21 and 19 – were arrested in connection with the investigation and were taken into custody.

DCI Christina Barrett said: “We’re in the early stages of a murder investigation and seven people have been arrested and are helping with enquiries.

“At this stage it’s believed all those involved are known to each other.

“Early indications suggest there was a disturbance both inside and outside the address and we’re working to establish exactly what has happened.

“I’d appeal for anyone in the area who saw or heard anything or has information about what happened to contact us as soon as possible.”

A post mortem will be carried out to establish a cause of death.

Northumbria Police Chief Superintendent Kay Blyth added: “A team of detectives are carrying out an investigation and seven people have been arrested.

“We understand incidents of this nature do cause concern to the community and the neighbourhood policing team are out and about in the community to keep them informed and to reassure them about the ongoing investigation.

“Anyone who has concerns should speak with their local officers.

“I’d also urge anyone who has information about what happened to pass it on to officers at the earliest opportunity.”

Anyone with information about the death or about a disturbance at an address in Burn Closes Crescent is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
