Metro knife attack probe continues

DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to a knife attack at Cullercoats Metro station last Thursday night to come forward.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed in the back while standing on a platform at the station at 10.39pm.

He is still in hospital, and his condition is described as stable.

The police believe the victim knew his attacker and have been viewing CCTV footage and making inquiries in the streets around the station.

Detective Chief Inspector Max Black, of the police’s North Tyneside area command, said: “Incidents of this nature in this area are unusual, and I would like to reassure people that this was not a random attack. Both men knew each other.

“This is still a very active inquiry. Police have carried out a number of inquiries and have studied CCTV.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Tyneside CID on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
