Members of the public have been praised after two marches in North Shields this afternoon.
The peaceful demonstrations from the English Defence League (EDL) and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) consisted of the groups walking along a pre-approved route to Northumberland Park, where speeches took place, at different times.
According to Northumbria Police, both events happened without any serious incidents.
Superintendent David Felton said: “Both events passed smoothly without any serious incident and disruption was kept to a minimum.
“I would like to thank the local community in North Shields and those who have come into the town today to visit shops, pubs and other attractions in the area for their patience and co-operation.”
