Staff threatened in store robbery

STAFF in a North Shields shop were threatened with a kitchen knife before a man ran off with a quantity of cigarettes last night.

It happened at about 10pm on Thursday, November 1, at the Co-op food store on Cleveland Road in the town.

A man entered the store, threatened staff with a kitchen knife and stole a quantity of Lambert and Butler cigarettes.

No one was injured in the incident.

Detectives investigating the robbery have CCTV stills of a man they need to trace in connection with the offence.

DC Ed Massey said: “We’re making extensive enquiries in relation to this robbery and now have CCTV stills of the man inside the shop who we need to trace.

“While no-one was injured, this was obviously distressing for the staff and we’re doing everything we can to find this man. I’d urge anyone with information about who he is to contact us as soon as possible.

“Any witnesses to the robbery or anyone with information about it is also asked to get in touch.”
