Vandals target rugby club’s new fence

RUBGY club bosses have seen hours of hard work undone in a few moments of mindless vandalism.

A small wire fence put up by Wallsend Rugby Club to divert dog walkers away from the playing field near Mullen Road has been cut in four places by vandals between Thursday, June 16 and Tuesday, July 12.

The club were forced to cancel a number of games last season after visiting teams refused to play on their grounds as dog walkers were using the pitch and not picking up after their animals.

The club used a grant from the Rugby Football Union to build the fence, which now has to be repaired.

Police are urging anyone with information about the damage to contact them on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
