Victim’s jaw broken in street attack

A man had his jaw broken during a street attack near North Shields Metro station carried out in the middle of the afternoon.

The assault occurred a week ago on Tuesday at 3.53pm in Nile Street following an altercation with a stranger.

The 27-year-old victim was set upon and knocked to the ground, then subjected to further blows.

The injured man was later taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment for a broken jaw.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the attack to come forward.

The offender is described as a white man aged 19 to 25, about 6ft tall and of medium build.

He is described as having cropped dirty blond hair and being unshaven. He was wearing a grey hoodie.

Police are asking anyone in Nile Street at the time and able to offer information enabling them to track down the culprit to get in touch.
