Wallsend working men’s club set on fire

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a building was set on fire in Wallsend.

Police received a report that three men wearing masks had kicked open the door of the Ex-Service and Working Men’s Club in Station Road, and went into the property at 12.17am on Friday, October 19.

Curtains inside the building were set on fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished minimising the extent of the damage.

Fire investigators are carrying out enquiries to establish the cause of the fire.

Initial enquiries suggest that an accelerant was used.

No one was in the building at the time and no one was injured.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw a black Citroen in the area at the time of the incident.

Three men aged 59, 64 and 30 have been arrested in connection with the incident and are helping police with their enquiries.
