Cullercoats girls win derby against Whitley Bay
Cullercoats U16s girls 5-0 Whitley Bay
Cullercoats girls entertained their closest neighbours in this eagerly anticipated opener of the 17/18 season.
A very tentative opening by both teams as they weighed each other up and it took until the 33rd minute for the deadlock to be broken when Cullercoats were handed a free kick right side of the box. Chloe Mckenzie whipped it in with pace and Kennedi baxter struck a clinical half volley into the visitors net 1-0.
Cullercoats started the second half brightly and should have double their advantage but Mia Wallace’s shot went wide of the upright after Paige Longstaff sent her through.
On 52mins A clinical finish from Chloe McKenzie doubled the lead with an assist from Makenzie Leck .5mins later and a Mia Wallace header was brilliantly tipped onto the post by the Whitley keeper and Wallace blazed the rebound wide.Moments later another great cross from Saffy Hogarth and again a Wallace header, again denied by the visitors keeper. On 62mins Cullercoats had the ball in the net again but for the linesman to unjustly flag another player offside. Whitley bay always looked dangerous and a brilliant dribble from the Whitley striker saw her take on 3 players and looked a certain goal but for the in form Libby Hall in nets to deny her from point blank. End to end football at this point and Mia Wallace burst down the flank and whipped in a cross and half heartedly cleared by the Whitley defence, straight to centre mid Bobbie-Lou Taylor who coolly slotted it home from the edge of the box 3-0. A rampant Cullercoats oozing in confidence, were now finding space at will and a great vision from Saffy Hogarth Split the Whitley defence and Chloe McKenzie beat the on rushing keeper to make it 4-0 and also injuring herself in the process (shoulder). Cullercoats sealed an emphatic victory with the goal of the game, great midfield play and bobbie-Lou Taylor layed it off for Kennedi baxter who thumped it home from 20yrds out 5-0
Many candidates for Player of The Match but after much debate it went to Courtney Sherriff who again was outstanding at the centre of defence, just edging out the equally impressive Mia Wallace.
A fantastic performance from all the squad today and a clean sheet equally impressive, cracking start to our girls season. The girls are already relishing the trip to Wylam Rockettes next Saturday.
