The curtain is being brought down on a fundraising initiative in aid of a hospital unit.

The Friends of CHUF will be holding their last nearly new baby, children’s and maternity wear sale.

After more than ten years, Rebecca Seal and fellow volunteers decided the time was right to bring the sales to a close.

The last sale is on Sunday, November 29, at the Linskill Centre, North Shields, from 10am.

Money raised at the events goes to the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) which raises money for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital.

Rebecca said: “We’ve been raising funds for CHUF for around five years now, raising funds for other national charities before that.

“We have absolutely loved running the sales and want to acknowledge the support of everyone who has made them such a great success, particularly our sellers and buyers.”

“We have met amazing people and will fully support CHUF in all the ways we can in the future.”

She added: “When we first started the sales we raised money for a national charity but five years ago we started looking for a new local charity to support.

“A good friend of the committee had tragically lost their three-day-old son, and the Freeman Hospital were vital in supporting the family so we had a strong leaning towards them.”

The sales have raised more than £6,000 for CHUF and the committee hope to add to that before handing over a final cheque to CHUF in December.

Ivan Hollingsworth, a parent trustee for CHUF, said: “What Rebecca and the volunteers have done is incredible.

“On behalf of CHUF, I’d like to publicly thank them all for such amazing support over the years.

“It’s my hope that their final event will be brilliantly supported. They deserve our deepest gratitude.”

The sales are promoted and supported by Janine Rudin of the Birth and Baby Network (

Anyone wishing to attend Sunday’s final event are advised to arrive 15 minutes before official opening for browsing, and should bring their own reusable bags.
