Customer centre on the move

A COUNCIL facility is being moved due to the poor condition of its current premises.

North Tyneside Council’s customer service centre in Wallsend is being relocated from Park House in Park Road because of problems with the building.

From Monday, April 2, it will be based in the Forum shopping centre.

Coun Glynis Barrie, cabinet member for leisure, culture, tourism and safer communities, said: “We’re committed to putting the council’s customers first.

“We’ve listened to residents who told us that the current customer service centre in Wallsend is not up to standard.

“Relocated into a retail unit within the Forum shopping centre will bring services right into the heart of the town centre and provide improved facilities for customers.

“It will offer greater comfort and privacy as well as better access for people with disabilities.”

The current centre in Park House will close at 4.30pm on Thursday, March 29.

The new facility – which will open in the former Food Weighouse, Unit 5-7, in the shopping centre at 8.45am on April 2 – will offer advice and information on a range of council services, payment facilities, self-serve terminals to access information, customer service booths and private interview rooms, a waiting area including small children’s play area, and improved access for people with disabilities.

Residents who want to access services on Friday, March 30, should contact 0345 200 0101 or visit another council customer service centre in either North Shields, Whitley Bay or Killingworth.
