Cutting a path to future in marine engineering

MARINE engineering students have been improving their skills thanks to a programme delivered by a borough college.

A total of 55 students at Newcastle University took part in the 11th multi-skilling programme that has been derived by the engineering department at TyneMet College.

The hands on programme was delivered over three days and introduced the students to fabrication, welding and turning in the college’s machine shop.

Mick Burton, head of engineering, said: “We have established a strong relationship with the School of Marine Science and Technology and will continue to work closely with them to develop multi skilling programmes that are relevant to the degree course modules.”
