Deadline is extended for winter snaps in borough

WINTER offers lots of opportunities for photographers to take striking shots – as this photo by Owen Humphreys of ducks on frozen Marden Quarry in Whitley Bay last week proves – and now is your chance to get in on the act.

North Tyneside Council has extended the deadline for its annual Winter Snaps photography competition this year because of the relative lack of snow and ice seen in the borough so far.

The closing date has been put back from Tuesday, January 31, to Wednesday, February 29.

The four best entries will be turned into postcards, to be made available in libraries and tourist information centres.

Photos can be e-mailed to

Entries must have been taken in North Tyneside this winter, and entrants are allowed to submit a maximum of three photos.
