MOTORISTS are being warned about potential disruption as major roadworks take place at a busy junction in Whitley Bay.
Full resurfacing of the Foxhunters roundabout, at the junction of Rake Lane and Preston Road North, will begin on Monday, August 1.
The work could take up to five days and will consist of resurfacing the link roads from Seatonville Road roundabout up to, and including, Foxhunters roundabout.
The majority of the works will be carried out under traffic lights on restricted hours between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
However, officials at North Tyneside Council are warning that it may be necessary to close the roundabout to complete the resurfacing.
To keep traffic disruption to a minimum, the closure is provisionally planned for overnight on August 4, between 7pm and 7am – subject to operational issues.
Diversion routes will be set up on the night of the closure and will be kept to the main roads, to discourage traffic from using residential streets in the Preston Grange estates.
A council spokesperson said: “Signage will be placed on all approach roads to advise of the confirmed day.
“There may be some unavoidable noise disturbance associated with the works.
“However, every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.”
