DOGS: Obey rules on leads

editorial image

We were pleased to see the new notices explaining that dogs should be kept on a lead on the prom.

I hope it won’t be too long before people obey them.

I counted 20 dogs running loose in about 30 minutes one Saturday morning.

I’m sure that all of their owners would insist that they would do no harm, but there are some children and other dogs who are nervous around dogs.

It is also important to consider adults who have limited mobility and may find dodging an exuberant dog quite difficult.

Another good reason is that it is impossible to ignore a dog’s deposit when it is on a lead, thus improving the prom for everyone.

Please consider all of these when you choose to disobey.

It is not because we want to be killjoys – it is a pleasure watching the dogs running free on the beach.
