Students are driving ahead with plans to design a model Formula 1 car.
Two teams of pupils at Valley Gardens Middle School, in Whitley Bay, are taking part in the Formula 1 in schools competition.
They will design and make a working model, plus team name, brand and identity.
And they are being supported by Stratstone Tyneside MINI, based on Silverlink, to help them both financially and practically.
Billy Upton, brand leader, and David Guy, head of business at Stratstone Tyneside MINI, said: “We are delighted to be partnered with a local school.”
One of the pupils said: “It is brilliant to work with such a well-known brand like MINI.”
As well as Stratstone Tyneside MINI, the school is also working with Protirus Ltd, DPconstruction, OSBIT Power Ltd and Elliots Engineering.
Pupils will be manufacturing their car at Gateshead College, based at Nissan.
