College students have been given greater insight into engineering, thanks to a trip to Newcastle University.
The university’s School of Marine Science and Technology welcomed a group from Tyne Metropolitan College to take a closer look at its courses.
The group included 17-year-old Benjamin Keenan, of North Shields, who is studying a BTEC extended diploma in engineering and had the chance to shadow electro mechanical technician apprentice Lena Brown, who studied at TyneMet as part of her apprenticeship.
He said: “My aspiration is to go on to an apprenticeship. I think this is a great way to learn.”
TyneMet deputy head of engineering Emma Williams said: “The college is delighted for the opportunity presented by Newcastle University to demonstrate to our students the vast careers available through engineering.”
