A borough sea cadet has been awarded the prestigious role of Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland’s Cadet.
Emily Burston, a petty officer at Whitley Bay Sea Cadets, received the honour from the Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland, Her Grace Duchess of Northumberland.
The 17-year-old’s new role will involve assisting the Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland in events as well as act as an ambassador for Sea Cadets and young people living in Northumberland.
Emily said: “It’s an honour for both myself and the unit.
“I’m really proud to act on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant; it’s such a prestigious role.
“Sea Cadets has opened many doors for me. I joined in 2010 and haven’t looked back since. I have gained qualifications and enjoyed many trips away competing in local and national events.”
Whitley Bay Sea Cadets are celebrating another success. Commanding officer Jane Fox has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service in recognition of her outstanding loyalty and commitment to Sea Cadets for 30 years of volunteering with the charity.
