ENVIRONMENT: Polluting air, land and sea
Council disorder staff and police are faced with conduct by some residents and visitors varying from casual carelessness to evil.
Recently there were two reports of such issues, and contributions on the News Guardian letters pages on the timeless problems of littering and fears about dogs and their supposed controllers.
The vandalism at Souter Park and its bowling greens is incomprehensible to most of us.
The fact that Mr Fulthorpe and myself repeat our attempts to deal with lack of social conscience follows our perception that the increasing population is consuming more, producing more waste, polluting land, sea, and the air we all depend on.
A variation of the dog versus the environment issue is seen on our small green. Dogs and their walkers trample through flowers, sometimes multiple dogs.
Numbers of bottles, cans and food wrappings have appeared again. These have been referred to the police and council.
