New homes plan given green light

PLANS to build 14 houses on a former industrial estate in Wallsend have been approved by councillors.

The application by Bellway Homes will see 14 properties, as well as associated access, roadways, parking and landscaping, constructed at Howdon Green Industrial Estate in Norman Terrace.

The proposal comprises two-storey detached properties each with three bedrooms and garage space.

Five visitor parking spaces will also be created within the site.

Eleven of the properties have been designed with additional windows, including a ground floor bay window, to compliment traditional homes in Norman Terrace.

The application was approved by North Tyneside Council’s planning committee.

The authority had received a letter of support for the application from a resident stating the current empty site attracts anti-social behaviour and the development will improve the area.
