Fitness fanatics have been piling on the pounds – to help raise money for charity.
Women at the Whitley Bay exercise classes, run by Glow coach Liz Ford, have been raising money through contributions and a fitness challenge.
And they recently presented a cheque for £185.50 to Parkinson’s UK north east fundraiser Abby Robinson.
Liz, of Heron Close, Ashington, said: “My aim was not just to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of the fact that keeping fit has so many health benefits. It also helps keep a range of degenerative conditions at bay.”
Abby said: “People who have made a New Year resolution to get fit should be encouraged by being reminded of the importance of not giving up. And for people who do have Parkinson’s, exercise is vital. It has been shown to be very beneficial, helping improve mobility and balance, increasing both confidence and their feelings of social wellbeing.
“Exercise is also good for slowing down the progression and managing symptoms.”
“I would like to thank Liz and the Glow ladies for their fantastic fundraising effort, which will make a big difference to people living with Parkinson’s in the North East.”
