Families who have lost a loved one through dementia can help create a lasting tribute to their memory.
Dementia Care has launched a fundraising campaign to create a Memory Tree in the foyer of its specialist dementia care centre at Brunswick Village, Newcastle.
The tree will not only serve as a focal point for the centre but supporters can opt to have their names of their loved ones engraved on its bronze, silver and gold leaves.
The charity, which provides specialist care for more than 200 people with dementia each week, is hoping the Memory Tree will inspire those whose lives have been touched by dementia, or who simply want to show their support.
The charity is running an on-line crowdfunding campaign until February 12, to raise the £10,000 cost of the memory tree.
People can show their support by opting from a choice of pledges starting from as little as £10.
Those pledging £50 will receive a public thank you on Dementia Care’s website and in social media and their name will be inscribed on a donor’s board next to the Memory Tree.
Bronze, silver and gold leaves engraved with the donor’s chosen name can be pre-bought with pledges of £100, £200 and £300 respectively.
In addition, for a pledge of £1,000, companies, groups or organisations can pre-buy a rock that can be inscribed with a short message to remember a loved one or to inspire others, together with their corporate name.
Dementia Care’s director of finance, Dave Stevens, said: “More and more people now come into contact with dementia. We regularly receive donations from all over the UK in memory of people with dementia who have passed away.
“The Memory Tree will allow them to create a lasting memory to their loved one, whilst supporting our vital work of caring for people living with dementia and their families.”
