As a major gateway to our town and coast, Monkseaton Drive is particularly attractive in springtime.
Residents and visitors alike cannot fail to be impressed by the extensive tree-lined banking east of Beaumont Drive towards the sea, with its spectacular display of daffodils.
But will we be able to enjoy this beautiful sight for much longer?
Construction started earlier this year, with no obvious objective, on a high fence that will obscure the trees and flowers.
Fortunately, work has since halted because, to quote a local councillor, “the fence is in the wrong place”. How right they are, but as yet there’s no sign of its removal.
Let’s hope that this is actioned without further delay and wasteful expenditure so that, following proper reinstatement, we can all enjoy this wonderful landscape.
