ORGANISERS of a popular film festival returning for a second sequel are appealing for help to make this year’s event an even bigger blockbuster than its predecessors.
The annual Whitley Bay Film Festival has launched a recruitment drive for volunteers and is also appealing to businesses, film-makers and artists to get involved.
This year’s festival, the third, will run from Friday, August 17, to Sunday, September 2.
Lucy Harland said: “There are all sorts of ways people can get involved.
“For example, last year, we partnered with local businesses to provide catering for events.
“The help of local people was also essential. They helped make it a reality by volunteering their services.
“Residents helped put up flags, dish out popcorn and dressed up to steward events. Some people even offered the windows of their properties for screenings.
“Whatever you have to offer, there will be a way you can help make this year’s event better than ever and help put Whitley Bay on the map.”
The festival is also calling for film entries, offering budding film-makers an opportunity to get their movies screened and seen by audiences.
Fiction films, documentaries and animations are all welcome on DVD, Quicktime mov or mini-DV.
Full entry criteria and an online submission form are available at www.whitleybayfilmfestival.co.uk
This year’s submission deadline is Sunday, July 29.
