First World War project well received by public

THE steering group behind the Tynemouth World War One Commemoration Project have been taken aback by the interest in their memorial plans.

Following its launch last week the group said the project has clearly struck a chord with members of the public following a number of positive comments.

They are now looking forward to the first public meeting where it is hoped volunteers interested in helping research the names of those from the old Borough of Tynemouth who lost their lives in First World War will come forward.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday, April 12, at 7pm in the Linskill Centre, North Shields.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the project should visit, e-mail or write to Tynemouth World War One Commemoration Project, c/o Essell, 29 Howard Street, North Shields NE30 1AR.
